This is a cafeteria in the Jimmy Patterson building at the hospital. Of course everything at the hospital costs more.
There is the typical food stations like pizza and noodles. There is a section for baked goods, refrigerated drinks, and coffee. Then there is a self-serve salad bar where the contents are weighed at the cashier.
I purchased a average size salad and it cost me $8.35. There are pre-packaged salads called "Buddha's Delight" at $9.99.
You can get free water in small plastic cups that they supply.
The seating area is huge.
There is an old beat-up piano that is used to entertain people at certain times (I've never heard it being played).
There are washrooms in the seating area. -

Overpriced food, has a piano that one of the employees comes and plays horrible "music" for hours on end.

Not bad for cafeteria food on par with IKEA. The chicken burrito at $9 is reasonable but watch out for extra charges like guacamole. Fortunately, if you didn't look at the sign, the server will say "...,..., or ... for extra charge?" No idea what the price is for the daily special which had a description but no price. The Starbucks coffee comes in various sizes, again prices aren't listed. Nescafé machine coffee, lattes, etc are 1.99 and 2.99 as price list. Guess they want you to buy The Nescafé so they can recover the cost of the machine. They also have a cold salad bar which is ok if you don't show up late for lunch.

If you have the misfortune of having to visit VGH, or have the misfortune of having no time to eat elsewhere while working here, then, well, there is food here.
Parking here is an insane rip-off. Go hit up the side streets. I don't get how the government can get away with this. Visitors' parking at hospitals should be free!
The venue is set up like much like a university cafeteria, with the corresponding crappy food quality, and ridiculous pricing. 2 pieces of shriveled supermarket-frozen fish and cold onion rings should not be $8. The pizza slices were no better at $4. I swear, the only reason this place survives is because customers have no choice, as the next nearest food establishment is 3 blocks away (unless you want more overpriced hospital food in the adjacent building to the W). Well, I guess there's always the hospital food of unconscious patients..
Another reason why this place is 2 stars - they charge for plastic forks. For real? I'm not talking about your 5th fork either.
The one redeeming factor here, and I have no idea how they managed to pull this off, is the Steinway piano in the eating area. It's a little beaten up, but it works. How this ended up at a hospital instead of a concert hall or a virtuoso's home is beyond me. This thing is probably worth more than all of the furniture in the establishment. And it works.
Oh, and the seating area here is absolutely huge. Guess you can hold your wedding party here for 150 if you so desire, though you probably won't get discounts on the food.
This sounds bad, but if you have to visit somebody at this hospital, eat before you do so. -

For hospital food it is not too bad. You got various dishes both eastern and western style. If you want cold cut there are a lot of choice of salad, sandwich, sushi and cold noodles.
